Richard P. Gard was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1955. He is the third of four children of Philip and Donna Gard. After moving back to Fremont County in 1958, his father started a family business building homes in Riverton. As a teenager, he worked alongside his dad and found he enjoyed that line of work. He earned his Eagle Scout award as a youth. Richard went to K through 12th grade in Riverton, graduated in 1974 and attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. There he met his wife of 42 years, Debra Zohner. They were married in 1976 and moved back to Riverton to raise their family of six children, all of whom attended school and graduated from Riverton High School.
Richard is co-owner of Gardcrafted, PHD Inc., where he has worked for 42 years in the building industry in Fremont County, having built many homes and commercial buildings along with many kitchen and flooring projects. He was elected to Riverton City Council for a 4 year term in 2010 and elected to be the Mayor in 2018. He has served on City Council, the Airport Board, Finance Committee, Chamber of Commerce Board, and FCSD #25 Recreation Board. He was a past President and Vice-President on the City Council.
He has supported all youth activities over the years such as baseball, basketball and soccer, having umpired baseball and served as scorekeeper for the CWC basketball program.
Richard is hoping to bring Riverton back to its leadership position in Wyoming and to help keep our young people working in our state. He wants to give back to Riverton for the many years that this town has been so kind to him and his loved ones.
