Twice each year the police department runs a “Citizen’s Academy” program for interested members of the community. The Academy meets one night a week for eight consecutive weeks, and each session involves a presentation about some aspect of the Riverton Police Department’s operation. Sessions include topics as diverse as firearms, crime scene processing, and legal concepts. The instructors are all members of the RPD, and presentations are as “hands-on” as possible, depending on the topic. Additionally, attendees are asked to go on at least one “ride-a-long” with an officer and to spend some time in the dispatch center.
People interested in participating in the next Citizen’s Academy are asked to contact the Administrative Captain for scheduling.
